ConfigFox is a portable app which lets you tweak the settings of Mozilla Firefox to your heart’s content
Mozilla Firefox is without a doubt the third most used browser inn the world, only next to Ineternet Expllorer and Google Chrome.
The browser’s popularity is largely due to the fact that it has a ton of add-ons, and offers a great depth of customization.
Many of these lay hidden behind Firefox’s about flag options, which like Google Chrome’s flags span to an incredibly huge list. And some of them are not easy to find, unless you know exactly what you are searching for.
If only there was a way to display the settings in an easier way? And if only it was way to change these settings with a simple click of the mouse.
Allow me to say your search has come to an end, meet ConfigFox. It is a free app, devoid of ads, and is also completely open source. This small application, has a minimalistic GUI, and allows to view and change a plethora of options available in Mozilla Firefox.
We must advise users here, not to try the tool, if you aren’t comfortable with tweaking settings. You can use the app, to create a new profile for the browser, and all changes will be stored in a file called user.js.
ConfigFox consists of two main sets of tools and settings:
A list of general, advanced and hidden settings
And a set of optimization tools (for advanced users only)
Before using the app, you need to close Firefox, obviously. ConFigFox allows you to select the way how the browser starts, lets you pick Firefox’s auto-update settings, Plugin behaviour, Tab behaviour,
The more important one, which many users would like, are the Privacy Settings, which disables telemetry, error-reporting, and other such background services of Firefox. You can use ConfigFox to disable Pocket, Firefox Hello, and many built-in features easily. The app also lets you tweak the settings related to the location bar, search, auto complete suggestions and more.
The advanced tools which i mentioned above can be accessed from the toolbar (tools >) and lets you defrag the profile folder for better performance, backup your profile and manage all of your profiles, and more.
ConfigFox is a portable tool, so you don’t have to install it on your PC. And you can carry it on your USB Flash Drive too.
Download ConfigFox from the official website. The application is available in 32-bit and 64-bit builds, both of which only weigh a little over 1 MB each. The best part is that ConfigFox, also works on other browsers based on Firefox, including Palemoon and Waterfox.
