Foxit Reader 7.3 adds support for OneDrive, Google Drive, Word Count and more
Foxit Reader 7.3 has been released, with quite a few changes.
In case you aren’t aware of the program, Foxit Reader is a PDF viewing application, which can also create, annotate, and print PDF files.
Let’s take a look at some of the application’s important features:
Foxit Reader has a ribbon interface similar to Microsoft Office, which is quite beautiful. The application has optional spell-check and browser plugins. Microsoft Office users can also use Word, PPT and Excel plugins as well. You can even use Foxit Reader as the default system printer in Windows.
What I like is that the app has a Safe Reading mode, which prevents malicious URLs and scripts from being executed, in an isolated environment (a Sandboxed environment).
Of course most browsers support PDF viewing natively these days, and Microsoft Edge, the default browser in Windows 10, is the pre-selected default PDF viewer in the operating system. But I doubt that they are as good as Foxit Reader, which offers so many features, especially for annotation.
However the one thing I do not like in Foxit Reader is the advertisement banners the application displays in the top right corner. But, that is the price we have to pay for using a free app I suppose. But you can actually disable the ads.
How to disable ads in Foxit Reader:
Click on the File option in the ribbon interface of the application.
Select the setting called “Preferences” from the left sidebar.
Now click on the General tab.
Uncheck the last option, which says “Show Advertisement”.
The ads should be disabled. And to have this option available in the app is worth applauding indeed.
What’s new in Foxit Reader 7.3:
The application now supports two cloud storage services: OneDrive and Google Drive. You can use this option from the File tab, to open or save PDFs from and to the cloud.
A new Word Count option is now available in the right-click context menu in Foxit Reader. Simply select some text and right-click > Word Count which will tell you how many words are there in the sentences you selected.
Foxit reader now supports Time stamps, Scroll lock and also lets you sign PDFs with a certificate. The developers have also fixed four security issues from version 7.2 of Foxit Reader, along with some improvements for PDF signing, XFA forms and Vertical split view.
Download Foxit Reader 7.3 from the official website. It is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux 32-bit and 64-bit computers. Alternatively, you can get a portable version of Foxit Reader from PortableApps, which is a third-part repository for portable Windows applications.
