Free Download Manager dark theme is here
The Free Download Manager dark theme is here. This doesn’t surprise us remotely. Why? Because the developers had previously announced, in the change log of the previous version, v5.1.35 [build 7092], which was released in April 2018, that the dark interface for the application is coming soon.
And yes, that means the dark theme is only available for v5.1 users. You may remember reading about the first beta of Free Download Manager 5.1, which we wrote about in December 2015. The application is evolved over the years and is now very stable.
How to enable the Free Download Manager dark theme?
It is a pretty straight forward method to switch the interface to use the new theme.
1. Open the application, and click on the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner of FDM’s interface.
2. Select the settings option from the drop-down menu, and you will be taken to the General Tab directly. You may notice that the options here have changed slightly, and now houses a Theme option on the top of the list.
3. By default, the radio button for the light theme is enabled, but you can click on the Dark theme option to switch to the new interface color.
You don’t even have to restart the application, for the change to take effect, because it is instantaneous. You can switch back to the light theme in FDM in the same manner. To return to the home screen of the application, just click on the back arrow icon in the top left corner of the interface.
Is there any functional difference between the dark theme and light theme in FDM?
Of course, there isn’t any difference in terms of functionality. It is purely for aesthetics purposes. Some people like the dark theme because it is easier on the eyes, while some prefer the opposite.
If you have left the option to let the application download and install the updates automatically, you may already be on version 184.108.40.20658, which is the version which brings the Free Download Manager dark theme. You can check the version number from the menu > About FDM screen. You can always download the latest version from the official website and install it over the old one.
Apart from this, the developers have also fixed a few bugs in the new version, which were reportedly causing issues for users when they tried to download videos from YouTube.
Also, the Free Download Manager browser extensions for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome have also been updated.
