A lot of people are still upgrading to Windows 10, and one of the biggest worries is whether their computer is working fine. Here’s how to check the device performance and health in Windows 10.

This is a simple process, which requires no extra tools. In fact, this is a feature, which is included in the operating system. And you don’t need any technical knowledge to get the information.

  1. Open the Settings app using the Start Menu or Ctrl + I.
  2. Click on the “Update & Security” option.

That’s it. Easy wasn’t it? There is a faster way to access this screen. Click on the taskbar’s caret icon which looks like this ^.  This should display the hidden icons on your computer. Click the Windows Defender icon (which resembles a shield), and this will open the Windows Defender Security Center screen. Click on the Device performance and health, to view the system’s health status.

You will find any issues reported by the operating system here. This includes the health report of the system. You can know at a glance whether there are any issues with the storage capacity, i.e. your hard drive, device drivers, apps and software. You can also see when the last scan of the system was run.

This is very useful in case you find that your computer is sluggish, or experiences BSODs (Blue Screen of Death), etc. Before you decide to download a third-party software to check your computer, try this method. It is free and reliable, and takes just a few clicks of the mouse.

It was nice of Microsoft to include this little utility. It is a lot more user-friendly than asking a novice user to look at the Device Manager, and find which driver is working and which isn’t. And it provides more information anyway.

You now know how to check the device performance and health in Windows 10. Do you know to fix the problems though? Sometimes there is no way to resolve the problems, except one. In case there are issues with your computer, you can use the Fresh Start option to reset Windows. This may fix the problems and improve the performance of your computer.
