How to disable ads on the Windows 10 Lock screen

As if there aren’t enough faults in Windows 10, Microsoft is making things even worse.

Remember how the company began advertising the free Windows 10 upgrade very aggressively?

The Redmond company had made the GWX10 (get Windows 10 app), pop-up to take up an entire screen on Windows 7 and 8.1 computers. and even more annoyingly, it did not allow the user to skip the download of the new operating system.

To further rub salt in the wound, the pop-up had no option to skip the installation of the upgrade either, except save for a setting to postpone it for later in the day. And more recently, the company began pushing the Windows 10 Upgrade as a recommended Windows Update, but you can disable it easily by following our user friendly guide.

Now, a newer issue has appeared to annoy Windows 10 users, and yes it is quite a bit bizzare. One of our readers informed me that Windows 10 is now displaying ads on the lockscreen, and also mentioned a way to disable the advertisements. Excellent isn’t it? I mean, what better way to frustrate users with ads, and that too in a premium operating system? Is this the price users have to pay for a free Upgrade to Windows 10?

Apparently, the operating system makes use od the Windows Spotlight feature to display the ads. This feature is actually used for the lock screen backgrounds, which the operating system changes often.

How to disable ads on the Windows 10 Lock screen

6. Select the option, and choose the “Picture” or “Slideshow” option.
7. A new option will appear, called, “Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen”.
8. It has a toggle button below it, which is enabled by default.
9. Click on it turn it off.

The ads will no longer appear on your lock screen.Yo don’t need to restart the PC for this to take effect.

And of course, this will also save you some of your network bandwidth as well, while not a whole lot, even a few megabytes will be helpful at times.

While we are on the topic, why not strengthen the security of Windows 10, by disabling the annoying privacy related settings, with the excellent free application O&O ShutUp10.
