How to fix Windows 10 Start Menu items not pinning or unpinning with Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

Kaspersky Internet Security is my first choice security product. But I hate to say that the company has been notoriously slow, when it comes to Windows 10 compatibility.

While all other major anti-virus companies have had their products up and running since the Windows 10 Technical Preview was released in October 2014.

But the Russian security firm was in no hurry to update its product. Support staff at the Kaspersky made a mockery of users who requested support its products on Windows 10. Keep in mind these are paying customers, who were asking for a valid request. Instead of providing a public beta of its products, Kaspersky slammed the door in the faces of these fans, with the most absurd reason ever “Windows 10 is launching in July 29th, it is not ven ready yet. So don’t expect support for it until it is released.

But as soon as Windows 10 was released, Kaspersky hurriedly rolled out compatible versions of its products. I suppose it was enough for regular users, but Windows Insiders like myself were very annoyed in that we had to rely on third-party security solutions.

Today, I came across a report, which mentions a rather peculiar issue.  Apparently, some users at the Kaspersky forums, have complained  that the Start Menu items are not pinning or unpinning on Windows 10 with Kaspersky Internet Security 2016.

Fortunately there is a simple workaround for the issue.

How to fix Windows 10 Start Menu items not pinning or unpinning with Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

1st method

1. Click on Start and then on your username (in the top left corner of the Start Menu)

2. Click on log off and then re-login, or restart the computer.

2nd method

1. Right click on the taskbar and select “Task Manager”

2. Right click on the process “Windows Explorer” and select “Restart”. If you don’t see the process tab, click on “more details”, i the bottom of the Task Manager

Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 Start Menu Fix

If you are running Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 version 16.0.0.614 (a) this workaround should help you. I personally haven’t had such issues with this, but it maybe because I have disabled animations in Windows 10.

Kaspersky has officially stated that the Start Menu issue will be fixed in patch B, which is expected to be released soon. The patch is being beta tested, and will be delivered through the security suite’s automatic update, for general users soon.

Kaspersky Internet Security and Windows 10 64 bit Compatibility:

A reader left a comment on a previous article, telling me that Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 on Windows 10, had prevented his browser Mozilla Firefox from working. I was using the 2015 version, but decided to give the latest version a shot, to see if I could help the reader. A direct upgrade from v2015-v2016 resulted in the version not working. I was aware that Kaspersky had recommended a full uninstall using its special tool, and installing the 2016 version, but I wanted to know if a workaround was possible. Sadly, it wasn’t, but a clean install of Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 resolved the issue.

I can confirm that Firefox runs fine with Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 on Windows 10 64-bit. The security suite works just like we want it to, without a single issue.
