Malwarebytes Secure Backup and Younited by F-Secure are being discontinued

by AshwinJune 2, 2015

Two cloud storage backup services, Malwarebytes Secure Backup, and Younited by F-Secure are being discontinued by their respective companies.

Here is what you need to know about the services being shutdown.

Malwarebytes Secure Backup is being discontinued:

Malwarebytes Secure Backup was launched in the summer of  2013, as a scan and backup service, which allowed users to backup their devices to the cloud using the SOS Cloud backup service, or to an external hard drive. The service was not exclusive to Windows PCs, it was also available for Android, iOS devices. It was unique in that it also used the company’s popular Malware scanning and removal tool, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, to scan files and remove infections, and thus ensured that backup copies remained free of malwares.

The company has announced that Malwarebytes Secure Backup is being discontinued on June 1, 2015. That is, new subscriptions are no longer possible. However, existing customers can renew their subscriptions until July 31, 2015.

Malwarebytes reveals that the Secure Backup service is being discontinued, so the company can focus on its security products, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. Speaking of which, the two products will not be affected by the closure of Secure Backup.

Users of Malwarebytes Secure Backup should either delete their files or move them from the Malwarebytes servers to SOS Cloud servers. Data which remains on the server after the subscription expires will be overwritten by the company. Please refer to the Malwarebytes Secure Backup End of Life FAQ.

Younited by F-Secure is being discontinued

Finnish security company and antivirus maker, F-Secure, launched Younited in November 2013. The service connected all cloud storage service accounts of a user in to one secure cloud storage service. Younited also integrating sharing services like Facebook into its cloud platform.

F-Secure has announced that it is refocusing its product portfolio, and that Younited is being discontinued on October 1, 2015. All Yonited accounts will transform into a read-only period for 30 days. Unlike Malwarebytes Secure Backup policy of over writing remnant file, F-Secure assures that all files stored on Younited’s servers will be deleted after the 30-day grace period. F-Secure is advising existing users to download all of their content stored on Younited’s servers, and transfer them to a different service.

For more information on the closure of Younited by F-Secure, including refunds, please refer to the official Younited website.

There are several alternative cloud storage services which you can use. If you are looking for a free cloud storage solution,  we recommend using Microsoft One Drive or Google Drive, as both services offer 15 GB free storage space.

Thanks Grr for the tip.
