Piriform has updated its system monitoring app, Speccy, to version 1.29.

The latest build of the app brings in a slew of bug fixes, let’s find out what they are.

Piriform says it has patched in some fixes to Speccy, which improves the stability of the app on Windows 10 PCs. Recently we came across many reports on Reddit, which suggested that the Speccy app was causing issues on user’s PCs, when they upgraded to Windows 10 Build 10586.

Microsoft had released the November Update for its operating System a month ago and it has been a terrible experience for users of Speccy and CCleaner.

Several users claimed that while the Windows upgrade removed the two apps from their computers, they were able to reinstall the apps on the same version of Windows 10, and found it to be working. Yet, some users still reported that they experienced BSODs and crashes while using the app.

It is likely that these issues are the ones that Piriform has addressed, in the latest update of Speccy. This is what it mentions in the change log

“(This Update) fixes for Windows 10 related bugs and of course fixes for some user reported issues”

Emphasis added for providing context.

So, we can safely say that Speccy 1.29 app is now compatible with the latest version of Microsoft’s new operating system. Nevertheless, if you are yet to update to the latest build of Windows 10, we recommend updating to Speccy 1.29, to avoid potential issues.

Speccy now supports all of Intel’s processor lines, including the new Skylake processors which were launched earlier this year, and also the more popular Broadwell processors.

The app will also now function better to detect peripherals and network adaptors. Piriform says it has also improved the algorithm of the app, which should now help in better detection of hardware.

Speccy has also received some miscellaneous GUI improvements, and some minor bug fixes, which Piriform has not detailed about in the official release notes. We weren’t able to spot any changes, so they are most likely trivial, and under the hood.

We tested the app on our Windows 10 PCs, and found it to be working flawessly.

On a side note, Piriform had released the latest version of it popular CCleaner app, about a couple of weeks ago, which took the version number to 5.12. This was not a feature update, and was instead a minor update which mainly focused on browser cleaning improvements.
