Skype makes it easier for anyone to join a conversation, even without an account
Skype, is the probably still the most popular VOIP service, and is one that we probably can’t live without.
But not everybody uses the service, and one of the reasons for that could be “I don’t like signing up to use it”.
Silly as it may sound, the user could actually be worried about their privacy, and not having a public profile of themselves available online.
Well, things are about to change, and here’s how. The Microsoft owned service has announced a new way which makes it easier for users to join a Skype conversation, and you can even do so without even having a Skype account. That’s right, you don’t even need to sign in.
Basically what happens with this feature, is that the person you invite, joins the Skype conversation, will be added as a guest user, and as such the user will not need an account to join/take part in the call.
Check the above picture, which shows the screen, right after you make a Skype call. By clicking on the “+new” button to make a call, you will get the option to “copy link” for the conversation. Alternatively you can email it to a friend or loved one or anyone you want to. In fact you can even invite users by using Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger or Twitter, basically any IM or web service.
The recipient of the invite can join the call by clicking on the link, which will take them to the official website, Skype for Web, from where they can chat with you without logging in.
The new Skype join a conversation feature, is available in Skype for Windows, Skype for Mac or Skype for Web. So, go ahead and give it a try. Skype for iPhone, iPad and Android users can join a conversation on their device by logging in to the app with their Skype name and password.
You can watch the following video to see the new feature in action:
Skype says it will be rolling out this feature over the next few weeks, but it is available for me already )as evidenced by the screenshot).
If you have read my previous write up about Skype Mojis, you would know they are the cool new video clips from popular shows and movies, which you can send to your friends. Well, Skype has added more Mojis (video clips), tabs for favorite Mojis, and more
