Windows 10 Build 10240 gets a minor update KB3074665 to fix security and performance issues

A few days ago, Microsoft released Windows 10 Build 10240 to both rings of the Windows Insider Program.

This build is supposedly the RTM version, which has been shipped to manufacturers.

That suggests that Build 10240 will be bug free, but it appears otherwise, as today’s update does fix some issues.

Today, Microsoft’s Gabe Aul, announced that the company has released a new Windows Update for Build 10240.

This is what he stated on Twitter:

Unfortunately he did not provide more details about what the update fixes, and neither did the Redmond company.

The update’s description reads “Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074665)”.

But Aul says that it is more than just a security patch, in fact it is a cumulative update, and that it also includes some performance related bug fixes.

When a user questioned Aul , he revealed the following:

Another questioned posed to the head of the Windows Insider Program got the following reply:

“It is a package of fixes based on reported issues in 10240.”, he said. While no official information is available about the list of changes, I can definitely notice an improvement in the general performance of the operating system, more on this later in my hands on review.

The update in question is called KB3074665, and is only available for computers running the latest build of the operating system.

The update is rolling out already and should download automatically on your computer,  but you can also check for it manually by navigating to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Update. It should detect and begin downloading KB3074665.

Note: Windows Update KB3074665 requires a reboot to complete the installation.

If Windows Update does not detect the KB3074665 update, check the Advanced options, and view your Update History, to see if it has already been installed.

On a side note, Windows 10 Insider Preview ISOs have been stopped temporarily, ahead of the release of the final version of Windows 10 on July 29th. Microsoft will release preview builds through Windows Update, but it is unlikely since, Build 10240 is the RTM Build. So, we can expect more patches and bug fixes for it in the near future.

UPDATE

Here is the knowledge base page for KB3074665. It states that the update fixes vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer, and also has a huge list of non–security-related changes.
